Black Cat
What up everyone? Back with another reveal and this one was relatively simple. Relatively. Lol. Since there isn’t much to say, let’s just jump right into this… here is Black Cat.
Ok, I know we already have a few options for Black Cat Marvel Legends, but sadly none of them really did it for me for multiple reasons (not the costume I wanted, no neck hinge, weird tiny claw hands). I decided to take a bit of everything I liked from the 2 Black Cat figures I had in my collection and bash it together. What we ended up getting was a more definitive (but still not perfect) Black Cat.
Felica was made using a Riders Black Widow upper arms, upper legs and lower torso. These were the parts from the Kingpin wave Black Cat that I liked. I liked that you could see wrinkles in the costume. I wanted this to mimic a latex cat suit and I think the wrinkles in the legs and lower torso help accomplish that.
The upper torso, lower arms, lower legs and head came from the first ML Black Cat. I obviously wanted to keep the fur trimmed boots and gloves. I also wanted to keep the upper torso because again, it went with the latex suit look I was going for. I swapped the hair on that old head with the one from White Rabbit and added a bit of sculpt to fill in the rabbit ear holes and some.
My favourite change was the hands, I HATE those tiny claw hands that Hasbro keeps using on their clawed female figures. The splayed out slashing hand has a weird up and down hinge and the weapon holding clawed hand leave a lot to be desired. Once I saw the hands from Gwenom from the Venompool wave, I knew I found the perfect substitute. I did have to modify the pegs so they’d fit in the lower arms, but it was relatively harmless. The final piece of fodder came from Mockingbird, who gave up her feet.
The biggest challenges here were giving her a neck hinge and extending her lower torso to accommodate the old style ML female upper torso. Originally when I planned on adding neck articulation, my plan was to cut a neck with a hinge from another figure off and transplanting it onto here. But I ultimately ended up utilizing a dumbbell joint from the neck to the head, which allowed it a significantly better range of motion. To do this, I simply dremeled out the inside of the neck and into the body where the dumbbell joint sits comfortably.
The final thing I wanted my perfect Black Cat to have was a glossy black paint job with some blue shading. I love how the blue looks over the black and with the shiny finish, It really is striking. I am also really happy with how the white hair and fur contrast the glossy black body suit.
All in all, she isn’t a major upgrade from what we got before her, but a few very important things have been adjusted to my specific liking and for that, she’s worth it. Simple is the name of the game here, but im very happy with the end results. Up next: Victor Creed anyone?
