Jade (Dungeons & Dragons Original Character)
What’s up everyone? Hope you are all keeping safe out there. This week’s reveal is another original character, this time for the popular RPG Dungeons & Dragons. My customer reached out back in October when I posted for open commissions and the design of his character really caught my eye. Here is Jade (created by Dsplcer on IG - off topic but go give him a follow, he does some great figure photography)
Before we get going, there is a reference pic of this character at the beginning of the photo carousel at the bottom of the write up. I made Jade using a retro Black Widow body as a base. I swapped out the legs for MCU Dr Strange legs. I then transplanted some random lower legs from the fodder bin onto her new lower legs. The head came from Typhoid Mary and the hair is a modified Songbird hairpiece. The sword was made using the sword from a Retro Black suit Wolverine as a base.
Decent amount of sculpting on this one. I used equal parts Green Stuff and Apoxie Sculpt. I modified the front of the hair piece and the shirt flaps were both done using Green Stuff. I also used it on the blade of the sword and the neckline. I used Apoxie Sculpt for the arm glove detailing, the hands, lower legs and feet detailing, shirt detailing and for cementing the new legs in place on the bottom of the Dr Strange pants. I did use a finishing nail to anchor the legs into pants to provide additional support.
To make the flap on the front and back of the shirt, I rolled out some green stuff using a rolling pin and baby powder. Once I got it nice and thin, layed it on the body so it could form natural folds. I applied it gently to the body so I could easily remove it and trim it before blending it into the main shirt on the torso. To finish up the shirt I used small pieces of flattened wire for the closures up the front.
The sword was a lot of fun to make. It was the first time ive ever really crafted a unique sword out of a base sword (usually I just paint it and call it a day). But I wanted this one to match the images the customer had sent to me. One of the images he sent showed a sword with wings on it. I wanted to copy that as I thought the design was super cool. I used some wings from Namor’s legs and glued them to the blade. I also modified the length, the shape of the sword, point of the blade and the handle.
Painting was pretty simple on this one. Purple is one of the most satisfying colours to paint for me (it was actually a big part of why I found the design so striking). Had to lighten up the skin tone quite a bit from what I usually roll with so that was a bit of an adjustment for me, but I think I managed pretty good. The eyes were also a lot easier on this one simply due to design.
All in all, I think she turned out pretty dope and I hope my customer liked her. He seemed pretty happy about it, but I truly hope it delivered cause he seemed pretty stoked about the whole process. Thanks for stopping by everyone. Next reveal kicks off 3 in a row for my own personal collection before jumping back into the land of commissions! Stick around!
