Minor Projects - Batch #2 (Tony Stark, Peter Parker, Han Solo) and Davyn Ross Funko Pop
Hey everyone. Back with an update full of minor reveals. I have yet to officially reveal the last batch of MCU heads I painted up. Before I get tons of emails on the topic, I buy the head casts from Casting Cave, I don’t make them myself. Anyways, I figured I would throw them together with the Han Solo head I painted and a fun little Funko Pop Commission I did for a local friend of mine for Christmas and call it a “reveal”. Check it out.
First up is a Tom Holland/Peter Parker head. I am pretty happy with how he turned out. I’ve been working on making my eyes look less sad looking, and i don’t think i fully got the look I was going for here. While i think its an improvement over my last batch of heads, the eyes still look a little lost. Oh well, Im still happy enough with it. I actually painted up 3 of them, one of which I sold, the other 2 stuck around in my Civil War and Homecoming displays in my figure case.
Next up is my Robert Downey Jr/Tony Stark head. I did 2 Tony heads in the last batch of heads I painted, however they were a larger size to fit onto the Mark 46/50 armors. While it did fit on the suit body, it did look a bit oversized. Once Casting Cave got the same sculpt in a Coulson sized offering, i jumped on it. This is the head I think turned out the best of this bunch. I feel like my skin tone looks good, and my eyes look much cleaner than they usually do. Overall, very very happy with Tony.
Last of the alt heads is Han Solo. I think this one also turned out pretty good. It is probably my second favourite of the bunch. I really like the cast of this head, although it is a touch long (something i find common with shrunken head casts). But my paint job is pretty neck and neck with Tony. Pretty happy my results are getting a bit more consistent and cleaner. The practice is paying off!
Finally, I whipped up this little custom Funko Pop of a Youtube character named Davyn Ross. I know absolutely nothing about him other than its a bit more of a PG-13 version of Bob Ross. I dunno. I made him for a friend who wanted it made for his girlfriend for Christmas.
I will say that Funko Pop’s are pretty tricky to customize. Their lack of removable parts make it tricky when you have to sculpt in tight spaces. I did quite a bit of work on this guy. I used my dremel and sanded off the long sleeves on the arms. I then sanded and smoothed out with Apoxie Sculpt. I also sculpted new sleeves, a bandana around his neck and added some weight in the tummy and around the waist. I added more fro’ to his hair, and sculpted him some glasses too!
Overall, I’m pretty happy with all these little minor projects and I’m happy they’re finally off my table. Gonna take a little break from alt heads for a bit and move on with some X-Men related comic figures. Woo! Thanks for stopping by everyone!
