What’s up everyone. This next reveal is for another charity raffle. It is also a second attempt on a character I have done once before that received all kinds of love on the first time around. Here’s to hoping for the same this time. Here is, my Modular Armor 90’s Iron Man, complete with mullet Tony Stark alt head :)

Before I get to the figure, I want to talk about the charity. And I guess its not so much for a charity, its for a hospice in my hometown of Windsor Ontario. The Windsor Essex Hospice provides end of life care through the Community Palliative Medicine Program and through their Wellness Programs and Services at no cost to the family. My family was unfortunate enough to have to utilize their facility at this time last year when my father spent the last month of his life battling cancer in their Windsor Campus. The nurses and volunteers were truly amazing people and I was so grateful that he got to spend the last month with us in a place that could manage his pain and provide him the medical help he needed to stay comfortable. In doing so, they also took a MASSIVE burden off my mom who was dealing with the majority of it alone (I live across the country from her). They took such good care of him and I am still to this day beyond grateful for everything they did for my family.

I’ve decided to raffle off this one of a kind custom 90’s Modular Iron Man and donate all the funds to the Hospice as a way to show my appreciation for all the amazing work that they do and to say a personal thank you for taking such great care of my father during his final days. From November 14th till November 24th I will be accepting $5USD donations (via PayPal or e-Transfer for my fellow Canadians). One $5 USD donation will give you 1 ‘ticket’. You can buy as many tickets as you want. The more you buy, obviously the better chance you have at winning good ole Shellhead here. To sign up you can private message me on Instagram (or comment on the post) or email me at customsbymatchu@gmail.com. I will draw the winner LIVE on Instagram on November 25 or 26 (depending on my work schedule).

Aside from Iron Man, I will have a few awesome other prizes including a diorama from the very talented Resilient Customs who graciously built a diorama just so we could raffle it off alongside Iron Man. So very cool of him to do that. I also have a Walmart Exclusive movie Cable figure and a few more little goodies to give away too.

Soooo Iron Man. I made this figure using a very similar recipe to my first attempt, but made a few swaps to change it up a bit. He was built on the Grim Reaper buck, but instead of using the normal torso, I used the new torso they made for Namor utilizing the other parts from the Reaper body. I did this because I felt it looked a bit more lean and muscular and a bit less bloated. I also swapped out the hands, feet and heads (both masked and unmasked) with the 80th Anniversary Classic Iron Man for a more accurate look. I used the weapon effect from the Dragon Shield Black Ranger from the Power Rangers Lightning Collection as his chest repulser blast. Aside from the 2 heads I put together for this custom, I received a 3D printed head cast from Oliver Twisted Customs that I painted up for this guy as well. The print was really great quality and the 3D sculpt is most impressive. Big thanks to him for sending them over to me.

There was a decent amount of sculpting done on this figure (no surprise there given its an Iron Man). All sculpt (except some minor detailing on the chest, waist and mask - all of which done with Green Stuff) was done using Aves Apoxie Sculpt. The chest and shoulders were both fully resculpted and a magnet was implanted into his chest for the repulser blast to connect to. Knee armor was added, as well as detailing all over the legs, boots, gauntlets and waist.

The paint job on this guy is where I feel he really stands out. I just love this color combo and the metallic, candy coating on the red and yellow (but more particularly the red) pops like CRAZY! Im so obsessed with the final results. For the red, I started with a grey primer, then applied a solid base coat of silver. Once that was done, I hit it with literally 12 coats of Tamiya Clear Red. This gives a very vibrant, chrome, hot rod red. The yellow was a mixture of Turbo Dork Pucker (yellow) and Tamiya Clear Orange over a silver base coat. It was all finished up with a few coats of Testers Gloss Cote to give it the super shiny candy coating shell. It’s one of my favourite paint jobs Ive ever done on a custom.

Overall, I am so beyond stoked with how this Iron Man came together. Just like last time, he was a lot of fun to make, and knowing I was making it for funds for Hospice made it a very special build for me, especially as I approached the anniversary of my pop’s passing and birthday. If you are interested in donating for a chance to win this Iron Man custom, please head over to my Instagram @customsbymatchu and comment on the post (or dm me, or email me at customsbymatchu@gmail.com).

For more info to where I will be donating to, visit the Windsor Essex County Hospice webpage at https://www.thehospice.ca. It is such a truly incredible service they offer and I couldn’t be more gracious that my dad was able to spend his last days in comfort surrounded by his family.
